STUDENT SUPPORT COORDINATOR—Elizabeth Charon

The Student Support Coordinator (SSC) at DCHS focuses on the academic needs of students.
The coordinator serves as an another layer, in addition to counselors and administrators, to
support teachers and students. When a student is struggling in any class, fails to turn in
assignments, scores poorly, isn't participating in class, and/or seems to be stressed due to
academics, teachers will notify the Student Support Coordinator as soon as possible. The
SSC will meet with the student during his/her lunch, visit with parents, and also meet with teachers to
develop a plan of action. The SSC will also assist teachers to formulate strategies for the
student success in their classroom. If the SSC determines that the student is unsuccessful due
to emotional needs then the SSC will refer the student to the counselors for services. The SSC
supports teachers by assisting with parent communication, collaborating on intervention strategies, and documenting services provided to boost academic student success.
