Deer Creek Band Faculty

Mr. Darby Cassaday...
is in his fourteenth year of teaching and fifth year as a Band Director at Deer Creek Schools.  Mr. Cassaday's responsibilities include coordinating all aspects of the Deer Creek Band program.  Specifically, Mr. Cassaday directs the Antler Pride Marching Band, conducts the Wind Symphony, teaches 7th Brass at DCMS, and teaches the Beginning Trumpet and Trombone classes at DCIS.
Mr. Cassaday is a graduate of Sapulpa High School.  He earned both his BM in Trombone Performance and BME in Instrumental Music Education with an Emphasis in Jazz Studies from the University of Tulsa.  Mr. Cassaday received the School of Music Faculty Choice for Outstanding Student Award and was named a Presser Foundation Scholar.  He earned him MME in Instrumental Conducting from the University of Oklahoma, studying conducting with Dr. William Wakefield.  In 2010, on scholarship from Education Leadership Oklahoma, Mr. Cassaday completed his National Board Certification for Professional Teaching Standards in Early Adolescent through Young Adult Instrumental Music.  Mr. Cassaday maintains a private trombone and euphonium studio. Mr. Cassaday has served as the OkMEA All-State Band Chairperson and Band Division VP.
Prior to Deer Creek, Mr. Cassaday served as Director of Bands at Putnam City H.S. for 3 years and Assistant Director for 6 years.  Mr. Cassaday has also served on the teaching faculty for El Sistema Oklahoma, a music education program dedicated to serving the community by engaging children within an ensemble-based music program so they can share the joy of music making and grow as responsible citizens.
Mr. Cassaday's professional affiliations include NAfME, OkMEA, CODA, OBA, OkJE, OMAA, and the Int'l Trombone Association.

Mrs. Shannon Lockwood...
is originally from Edmond, OK.  She graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Music Education in December 2005.  That spring, she taught high school and middle school in Chisholm Public Schools in Enid for a semester.  Then, she moved to Keller, TX (by Fort Worth). She taught at Hillwood Middle School and Parkwood Hill Intermediate School for 5 years. She moved back to Oklahoma last year to be closer to family and friends.  This will be her fourth year teaching in Deer Creek.
She is a percussionist, and through the years, she has participated in the OU band and orchestra, the steel drum band at OU, the percussion orchestra, and the Magic of Orlando Drum and Bugle Corps in 2003. She has also taught percussion lessons for 10 years. She taught the percussion ensembles and the front ensemble at Edmond Memorial H.S. for 3 years, and the front ensemble at Yukon H.S. during her student teaching.
She has been married for 5 years to a wonderful man.  They have 2 cats and a dog (goldendoodle). She and her husband are very happy that they made the decision to move back home! Her hobbies include: playing with her dog, knitting, painting, scrapbooking, vacationing, and having game night with her friends.  She is excited to start the year at Deer Creek!
