A few tidbits...

A small town girl with a city girl's heart, I graduated from Elk City High School (where I proudly wore antlers as the mascot) a ridiculously long time ago! I graduated with a BA in English Education from UCO. During my time at Deer Creek, I have taught English II, III, and IV and sponsored Key Club. Currently, I teach Pre.AP English II and IV as well as Reading for FUN, and I direct our New Teacher Mentoring Program.  Before coming to Deer Creek, I was an active faculty member at Putnam City North High School, where I taught multiple levels of English, as well as Drama/PAC, and sponsored clubs and classes.

In 2006, I received my National Board Certification. I have continued work on the district, state, and national level, presenting at multiple conferences as well as consulting for OU's Center for Effective Schools, specifically working with rural schools in test preparation. Deer Creek is a leader in the educational arena, and I am immensely excited about being a part of this community, contributing all I can to ensure its continued excellence.

I have been happily married to my husband Keith, manager for Precision Concrete Cutting of Oklahoma, also for a crazy long time (though generally it feels like yesterday)! We have a sweet Belgian Malinois pup, Hazel, and a young Corgi, Truman.  We also enjoy travelling and independent music, searching out live music every chance we get. I visit Urban Agrarian, a farm to table food distributor, and cook as often as I can. I believe teaching and serving others is paramount to my own personal happiness as well as to the betterment of our world.

Mission Statement-District and Personal

Deer Creek School District will prepare its community learners for life’s future challenges in a global-based society. Certainly that is a part of my mission, but in addition to the district's vision, it is my personal mission to ensure every student who walks through the door of my classroom feels valued and loved and knows it's my goal to see that he/she learns not only the specific academic goals of our discipline but also what it means to be a caring, productive, giving member of a community.
