Who Are We? 
We are a large group of DCHS student leaders who volunteer to help others throughout the DC community and beyond. We uphold the four pillars of the National Honor Society: character, leadership, service, and scholarship. 

Who Can Join? 
Students must be classified as sophomores, juniors, or seniors, and have a transcripted, cumulative weighted GPA of 3.85 or higher. Additionally, students must have past credit in two or more advanced classes, such as AP, Pre-AP, or concurrent classes, and current enrollment in two or more advanced classes. Students must complete and turn in the application after they are notified of qualification, and members must finish and document 20 hours of service/volunteer work during the school year. (Further details will be shared upon notification.)

When Will Students be Notified? 
Grades will be verified mid-September by the registrar, and then “invitations” will be sent out.  If you feel you met the standards but do not receive an invitation, please contact Mrs. Frailey in the DCHS Media Center. wendyfrailey@dcsok.org

Meetings: Monthly meetings take place the first Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning of each month in the Student Center by the West Office unless otherwise notified through Remind messaging.

Check in (through email or in person) if you miss a meeting. Meeting attendance is required for membership. Stop in the media center ANY time to check on points and ask questions. See the NHS documents page for outside point slips and for summer point opportunities. 


INFORMATION ON POINTS 
At meetings, you will receive a point total on a slip of paper as you check in to the meetings. (This is also how we track attendance.) Remember that 20 points are required for the year and are due April *** for seniors and April *** for juniors and sophomores10 points/hours need to be inside hours that Deer Creek High School's NHS announces, and 10 of the points/hours need to be outside hours, which constitute charity or community work that you completed that NHS did not announce. Remember to fill out a point form to document outside hours. (You will find outside point forms on the website, on our board, and inside the Media Center--in a folder.) On your individual point slip handed to you at the meeting, you will see outside points and inside points listed. Points are updated as soon as possible. If you see any missing, it may be that the points were just turned in or that Mrs. Frailey did not know how many points to credit you for said activity. Thus, check in to report how many hours were worked and email Mrs. Frailey or fill out a form (and turn it in to Mrs. Frailey) to document anything that is missing. BOTTOM LINE: See or email Mrs. Frailey with any questions/concerns about your point total. 

 

 

 

SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES 
Members are encouraged to seek out ways to help in and outside of our community. Students may volunteer at various organizations, such as church camps, VBS, libraries, hospitals, community projects, elderly assistance, babysitting for those in need, and for established charities. We have assisted The Infant Crisis Center, the Regional Food Bank, and have been invited to intern for a week or two at an art museum via Oklahoma Contemporary. The three organizations mentioned above are easily found online and have volunteer information on their websites and on the June calendar on this website. Up to five points from summer volunteer work will count toward your point total of the required 20 points.  

Service 

Potential members must demonstrate a commitment to service work. NHS members must earn 20 hours (points) of service/volunteer work for the school year. 10 hours must be "inside" points, which consists of working activities that we announce and support while 10 hours must be "outside" points. For "outside points," members find their own ways to help others, document their work (by utilizing the form uploaded to this website; check under "NHS Documents"), and turn in these points to Mrs. Frailey in the Media Center. We encourage members to seek out ways to help in our community!

Character and Leadership

All members are asked to conduct themselves in a way that represents themselves and our school in a positive way and take opportunities to serve as leaders in a variety of ways in and outside of our community. Academic Dishonesty as well as other infractions can and may result in dismissal from NHS.
